Oil removal treatment process for petroleum and chemical industry wastewater

Separation for oil-water is an important step in the early pretreatment of industrial wastewater, and no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are produced after treatment

Oil removal treatment process for wastewater from semi-coke and coking plants

Semi-coke wastewater is generated during the carbonization in medium and low temperature (about 650°C) , primarily source from the circulating water used for cooling and washing coal gas, as well as the water during the process of chemical production. Semi-coke undergoes carbonization in low-temperature , resulting in a high yield of tar and abundant low-molecular organic substance during production. Consequently, the wastewater contains a significant amount of pollutants that have not been oxidized by high temperatures, with a concentration approximately 10 times higher than other coking wastewater, making it more challenging to treat than other coking wastewater.

Oily wastewater treatment process for oil depot tank area

Oily wastewater in the tank source from the dock, the tank area, and oil distribution facilities. The oily wastewater from the dock primarily comprises ballast water from oil tankers, tank cleaning water, and top water of process; the oily wastewater from oil distribution facilities mainly includes wastewater produced during the operation of loading platforms, pump rooms, and associated pipelines; and the oily wastewater from the tank area constitutes the majority of the oily wastewater in the oil depot, which includes cut water from tank , tank cleaning water, equipment and ground flushing water, and contaminated rainwater.

Treatment process of removing oil and impurity for re-injection water in oilfield

Most of oilfields in China have entered into the later stage of exploitation and utilization, especially the development of low-permeability oilfields, which require the injection of a large amount of water to maintain good permeability pressure. During the exploitation of oilfields, the water content of the crude oil extracted increases year by year, and the amount of produced water also rises accordingly. The main methods for treating the produced water are oil and suspended solids removal.

Commissioned treatment/operation of oily wastewater

We specialize in undertaking outsourced operations for oily wastewater in industries such as petrochemical, coal chemical, and new energy. We upgrade and transform existing processes for oil removal , achieving zero chemical addition, no secondary pollution, and no hazardous waste generation in the processes of removing oil from wastewater . We also facilitate the resource utilization of oily wastes. Additionally, we can collaborate and achieve win-win results through various modes such as EPC, BOT, and BOO.

General contracting of chemicals and technical services for circulating water

Circulating water for cooling is a type of water that uses water as the cooling medium. It is transported by conveying equipment to the water cooler of the process system, absorbs heat, and then is cooled by recycling facilities for cooling . The circulation of cooling water forms an independent system, known as the circulating system for cooling water . It consists of heat exchanger equipment such as air cooling towers, heat exchangers, and condensers, cooling equipment such as cooling towers, treatment facilities such as sedimentation tanks and filters, water pumps, pipelines, and other related facilities.

  • How can our company ensure the effectiveness of oil removal?

Based on the differences in the properties of water oil dispersion systems and using the state and particle size of oil as variables, our company's wastewater oil removal equipment is used to achieve step-by-step separation.

Tank within Tank - Coupled with sedimentation and cyclone separation technology and equipment, it separates suspended solids, floating oil, and large particle dispersed oil in wastewater. The final oil removal effect can reach: sewage oil content ≤ 150mg/L

Horizontal oil-water separator - coupling coarse-grained materials and polymerization technology, inclined plate polymerization separation technology, equipment. For different particle oil droplets, coalescence separation can achieve a final oil removal effect of ≤ 50mg/L oil content in wastewater.

Fine essential oil water separator - updates coarse-grained polymer materials  based super oleophilic and hydrophobic polymer materials, intelligently couples, captures emulsified oil and partially dissolved oil, and achieves high oil-water separation. The final oil removal effect can reach: the oil content in sewage is ≤ 20mg/L.

  • What is the service life of our company's oil-water separator?

The oil-water separator produced by our company is usually used in heavy load operations. Our technology has been widely applied in various industrial fields that generate oily wastewater, such as petrochemicals, coal chemicals, coking, steel and power, new energy materials, oil storage tank areas, port terminals, and oilfield re-injection. This means that they adopt excellent engineering design and high-quality surface treatment processes, enabling their service life to reach 28 to 30 years.

  • What are the current mainstream technologies for oil removal from wastewater?

    1. Physical Law

Gravity separation: using the density difference between oil and water to achieve separation, such as natural settling tanks, oil separators, etc., suitable for removing floating oil, but with a large footprint.

Centrifugal separation: Hydro-cyclones are widely used due to their small size and high efficiency, especially for the pre-treatment of oily wastewater from ships.

Membrane separation: Ultra-filtration/reverse osmosis technology has significant effects on the treatment of dissolved oil and emulsified oil, but the membrane cost is high and prone to contamination, making it mostly used in high-precision scenarios.

Agglomeration oil removal technology: Combining the dual mechanisms of wetting agglomeration and collision agglomeration, small oil droplets are adsorbed and agglomerated into large oil droplets through lipophilic/oleophobic materials (such as corrugated plates, fiber fillers, and agglomeration filters) to accelerate oil-water separation. Typical equipment includes a horizontal oil-water separator and an efficient coalescing oil remover, which are suitable for removing 10-20 μ m small dispersed oil particles and have the advantages of short residence time and small footprint.

    2. Chemical method

Coagulation/Air Floatation: Combining chemical demulsification with air flotation separation, such as the combination process of inclined plate air flotation and walnut shell filtration.

Electrochemical method: Electrical flotation technology can replace traditional air flotation, with lower energy consumption, but higher equipment investment.

    3. Biological Law

Aerobic/anaerobic treatment: such as activated sludge process and biological contact oxidation process, suitable for the degradation of organic matter in oily wastewater in ports, but requiring supporting pretreatment measures.

  • What is the principle of coalescence?

Coalescence is the process of two or more droplets or bubbles of a substance merging into one larger droplet, which filter out easily because they are heavier. Coalescence filtration can remove matter as tiny as 0.1 microns or smaller.

  • What is a Hydro-cyclone Oil-Water Separator?

The hydro-cyclone can achieve the separation of oil and water through a swirling centrifugal process based on the density difference between the two media.

  • Can a Hydro-cyclone Oil Separator handle emulsified oil?

No, Hydro-cyclone Oil Separators are primarily designed to separate free-floating or non-emulsified oil from water. This type of oil is typically less dense and rises to the surface, making it easier for hydro-cyclones to separate through strong centrifugal forces. However, emulsified oil consists of much smaller oil droplets that are dispersed within the water, often stabilized by chemicals or surfactant.

These tiny particles are much harder to separate because they are tightly mixed with the water, creating a stable suspension that doesn’t respond well to the centrifugal action of a Hydro-cyclone.

To effectively remove emulsified oil, additional treatment processes such as chemical dosing, which breaks down the emulsion, or coalescing separators, which allow small oil droplets to merge into larger ones, are typically required. These methods are better suited for handling emulsions and are often used in conjunction with Hydro-cyclone in complex oil-water separation systems to ensure thorough treatment of wastewater.
